What Is Reduced Rate Therapy?

Reduced-rate therapy is a type of psychotherapy that offers lower rates to clients than standard rates. This means that clients can receive treatment at a much lower cost, making it more accessible for those who need it. Reduced-rate therapy is also known as low-cost therapy or therapeutic internships.

Why should I consider reduced-rate therapy?

Here are 5 reasons to consider reduced-rate therapy for your mental health conditions:

1. You can save money.

Reduced-rate therapy is often more affordable than traditional therapy (save up to 50% off our regular rates) and makes it easier for you to access treatment. This is especially important if you don’t have insurance coverage or if the standard rates for treatment are too high for your budget. By receiving treatment at a lower cost, you may be able to find relief from your symptoms more easily. This means you can get the help you need without breaking the bank.

2. You can improve your mental health.

If you're struggling with your mental health, there's no shame in seeking help. Therapy can be an extremely effective way to improve your mental well-being. This is because it provides you with the support and assistance you need to improve your mental health condition and lead a healthy life overall. Don't let financial barriers prevent you from getting the help you need.

3. You can receive treatment quickly.

For many people, reduced-rate therapy is an effective way to receive treatment to relieve symptoms of mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety. This means you can get relief from debilitating symptoms quickly and easily.

4. You can get treatment from a qualified therapist.

Many mental health conditions are best treated by a qualified therapist. However, finding one who offers reduced rates can be a challenge. Our Psychotherapy Interns deliver excellent care under the supervision of a registered therapist. They meet regularly to discuss cases and collaborate on treatment plans. Inherently, you have two therapists looking out for your well-being!

5. You can get treatment from a therapist that you trust.

It's important to know that you can get help from a therapist that you trust. Many people find that finding the right therapist is crucial for successful treatment. When choosing a therapist, make sure you take into account your personality and needs. If you're looking for a therapist who is sympathetic and understanding, reduced-rate therapy can offer you valuable insights and perspectives that you may not find elsewhere.

What are the requirements for reduced-rate therapy?

There are a few requirements for using reduced-rate therapy. You will need to be eligible for the service and meet certain criteria indicated below.

  • You are a resident of Ontario 12+ years of age
  • You are not experiencing severe mental illness
  • You understand reduced rate therapy is short-term and there may not be an option to continue at a reduced rate with the Psychotherapy Intern once they graduate. However, you can be referred to another Psychotherapy Intern next semester.

Why work with a Therapy Intern?

Therapy internships allow you to try out psychotherapy. This is a great way to see if psychotherapy is right for you and to get started on the path to receiving full-time treatment.

A Psychotherapy intern is a Master's level student who is completing their practicum component toward a degree in Social Work or Psychotherapy. They have completed the foundational courses to obtain the comprehension and skills required to provide therapy under the supervision of a registered therapist. Psychotherapy interns are required to achieve a specific amount of clinical counselling hours to graduate. Shift supports educating the next generation in mental health through professional growth.
