Shift Spotlight: Sara Kassem

Sara joined our team a few short weeks ago, yet we feel like we’ve known her for much longer! That’s the magic of Sara’s shining demeanour. We know we can’t keep her all to ourselves, though. To help you get to know her too, we asked her what she loves about therapy, why she wanted to become a therapist, and if she could meet anyone, living or dead, who it would be.

Without further ado, here’s Sara.

What do you love about therapy?

Being involved in the connection of two humans beings with the shared humanity and understanding that life is a wild ride—for better or worse. Being in presence of the raw courage it takes to look at your pain is both humbling and inspiring!

Why did you want to become a therapist?

Becoming a therapist just seemed like a natural extension of who I am and all that matters to me. I love humanity - the whole messy, joyful, weird, awful, beautiful parts of it. I've always had a natural curiosity and genuinely care about people. I care deeply about supporting people in getting to a quality of life that they feel good about. Becoming a therapist felt like such a natural fit for me and I haven't regretted it for a day.

If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet and why?

Honestly, is it a cliché to say Oprah? I love Oprah! She was my first role model in learning that you can be strong AND vulnerable; down-to-earth AND wise; funny AND serious. She made it ok to talk about things that no one else was talking about. She was a great role model that we don't have to suffer in silence - that shared humanity is the best humanity.
