Overcoming Feelings of Anxiety and Maintaining Happiness

Anxiety is a natural response to an individual’s perceived sense of threat. It’s a feeling of uneasiness and an overwhelming sense of worry that is out of control to the point that it interferes with your daily activities and overall well-being. Everyone experiences anxiety at one time or another, but the intensity of the thoughts, frequency and level of anxious feelings tend to differ for each individual. Overcoming feelings of anxiety and maintaining happiness can be challenging tasks in times of uncertainty but there are simple practical guides to help you manage your worries to live a life that’s happier and more fulfilling.

  • Excessive nervousness
  • Sleep problems
  • Poor concentration
  • Increased heart rate
  • Avoidance 

Tips for managing anxiety

  • Practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing
  • Exercise regularly to improve your mood and boost overall health
  • Practice mindfulness to focus on the present moment and reduce regrets about the past
  • Get enough restful sleep each night
  • Identify what triggers your anxiety so that you can minimize exposure
  • Practice self-care by taking time for yourself and engaging in activities that bring you joy

  • Connect with friends and family members to boost your mood
  • Do something you enjoy 
  • Show kindness to other people in need
  • Practice self-compassion
  • Bring a positive attitude to conversations and daily events
