Meet Maheen

Maheen is a compassionate, client-centered clinical social worker and therapist working with both adolescents and adults experiencing ongoing issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma and emotional disturbances.

With over 17 years of direct clinical experience, Maheen brings a variety of clinical skills and strategies to her counselling approach.

In addition to her work at Shift, Maheen is a Professional Counsellor at Sheridan College and supports students with issues such as anxiety, depression and emotional disturbances. Her prior experience includes working with youth and adults in various clinical settings such as Peel Children’s Centre, Muslim Community Services, Associated Youth Services of Peel, and York University.

Maheen has comprehensive training in Clinical Hypnosis, Cybercounselling, Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Multisystemic Family Therapy and Energy Freedom Techniques. She uses best practices to help individuals, couples and families make meaningful, lasting changes to their lives.

Maheen’s approach to therapy is grounded in an atmosphere of safety, empathy and collaboration. She is effective at customizing her style of therapy depending on presenting issues and goals clients bring to the session. She is an empathetic and non-judgmental listener and takes great joy in helping her clients cope with distress, process difficult emotions, change distorted thought patterns, identify their inner resources, improve productivity and make critical decisions.
