Nancy works with adults and couples who've been through more than anyone should have to carry alone. Maybe you're still living with trauma from your childhood or replaying the calls you can't shake from a career in emergency services. Or maybe you've lost someone you love, and it feels like the rest of the world kept moving while yours stopped. However it started, it tends to show up the same way: restless nights, a shorter fuse, feeling numb when you want to feel something, or reaching for whatever takes the edge off, even when you can tell it's starting to make things harder. After 26 years as a police officer, Nancy knows that world from the inside, and first responders often seek her out because she already understands what the job asks of you and what it leaves behind. She also works with couples who've drifted apart and want to find their way back to each other. Whatever brought you here, Nancy helps you find healthier ways to cope, so you can start to feel more like yourself again.
Most people leave a session with Nancy feeling like a weight's been lifted off their shoulders, often lighter than they've felt in a long time, and already looking forward to the next one. Sessions are warm, gentle, and paced around you, and you can come in exactly as you are, tears and all. From your very first session, you'll have Nancy's undivided attention, and she'll make sure you feel truly understood. As you get to know each other, she'll gently nudge you toward the changes you came for. Nancy's passion for mental health never left her through all her years in policing. She watched the public and her own colleagues struggle with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance use, and she helped create a crisis intervention training program for police with the Canadian Mental Health Association. Policing let her help people in the middle of a crisis, but she rarely got to support them once it passed. So once her kids were old enough, Nancy went back to school so she could help people heal for the long haul. When her husband passed away four years ago, she came to know grief firsthand, and it's a big part of why this work means so much to her. Nancy knows what it's like to show up for others, and what it's like to need someone to show up for you.
Nancy is a mom of two and a proud grandma of four (yes, really, her oldest grandson is 11), and most of her free time goes to family. She's a huge animal lover with three dogs, including a Great Pyrenees who's by her side 24/7 and always keeping a watchful eye on her. She has training in equine-assisted therapy and loves spending time with horses and watching how they connect with people. From May to October she's camping, and the rest of the time you'll find her reading, out for a walk, or happily losing a whole afternoon to a paint-by-numbers.
