Adult Children of Immature Parents

Growing up with a parent who was emotionally immature leaves a particular kind of mark. You might have learned to manage their feelings before your own, to downplay your needs, or to read the room constantly as a matter of survival. As an adult, those patterns can show up in your relationships and your sense of self in ways that are hard to trace back to their source.

Therapy offers a chance to understand where those patterns came from without having to excuse the people who shaped them. You can work through what it meant to grow up in that environment, begin to separate what you were taught about yourself from what's actually true, and practise relating to others in ways that feel more mutual and grounded. Many people find that naming what happened, clearly and without minimizing it, is one of the most clarifying parts of the work.
