Relationship with Food and Body

Aging and Body Image

Getting older changes your body in ways that can be genuinely hard to sit with. In a culture that tends to treat youth as the default, aging can feel like loss, and the relationship you have with your body can become more fraught at the same time that life is asking you to adjust to other significant changes. Those feelings deserve attention rather than being pushed aside.

Therapy focused on aging and body image isn't about convincing you to love what you see in the mirror. It's about honestly working through the grief, self-criticism, or fear that can come with a changing body, and developing a more grounded relationship with yourself at this stage of life. It also tends to involve looking at where those standards came from, and deciding which ones you actually want to carry forward.
