Identity & Belonging

Aging and Identity

The question of who you are doesn't get simpler with age. Retirement, the end of active parenting, health changes, or shifts in long-standing relationships can all prompt a kind of reckoning with identity that nobody quite prepares you for. When the roles and routines that once defined you change, you may find yourself asking questions that feel both uncomfortable and important.

Therapy can be a good place to sit with those questions without needing to rush toward an answer. The work might involve revisiting what has always mattered to you beneath the roles you've held, exploring what this chapter of life could look like on your own terms, and making peace with what's behind you while staying curious about what's ahead. Identity isn't fixed, and that turns out to be more of a resource than a threat.
