What is this specialty?

When reading or writing requires significantly more effort than it appears to for those around you, the frustration can run deep. If you have dyslexia or dysgraphia, you may have spent years in schools that didn't fully understand your needs, and you might carry assumptions about your own capability that have more to do with those experiences than with what you're actually capable of.

Therapy isn't about remediating reading or writing skills, but it can address the emotional residue of those experiences. That might mean working through the shame or anxiety that built up around academic performance, developing a more accurate and fair picture of your strengths, or finding ways to manage the frustration that comes with navigating tasks that remain genuinely harder for you. Understanding where the difficulty comes from can change the story you've been telling yourself about it for a long time.
