Harm reduction starts from where you actually are, not where someone thinks you should be. If you're engaged in behaviours that carry risk, whether that's substance use or something else, the approach here is not to lecture you or set a predetermined destination. It's to support you in making choices that reduce the damage those behaviours cause, on your own terms.
That means honest conversations without judgment about what you're doing, why, and what you'd like to change, if anything. Together, you might look at the emotions and situations that drive the behaviours, work on managing cravings and stress through different strategies, and build communication and emotional regulation skills that give you more options. The focus is on your autonomy: the recognition that you can make meaningful changes, at a pace and in a direction that actually makes sense for your life.
