Performance Anxiety

Performance anxiety shows up in many forms. It might be the dread before a presentation, the way your mind goes blank right when you need it most, the creeping self-consciousness during a social situation, or the fear of being evaluated and found lacking. Whatever the context, the pattern tends to be the same: the anticipation itself becomes the problem.

Therapy can help you understand what's actually happening when anxiety spikes in these moments and where it's coming from. You'll look at the thoughts and expectations that tend to amplify the pressure, and work on shifting your relationship to performance and evaluation so that fear doesn't dominate before you even begin. This takes time, but the changes tend to be real and lasting.
