Compulsive sexual behaviour can become a source of genuine distress: shame, secrecy, and a pattern that feels hard to control despite real consequences for your relationships and sense of self. One of the harder parts is that the behaviour tends to be used to manage difficult emotions, which means willpower alone rarely resolves it.
Therapy looks at what is underneath the compulsive pattern, the emotional triggers, the unmet needs, the cycles of shame and escalation that keep things going. You will work on recognizing the situations and internal states that increase vulnerability, building alternative ways to manage those moments, and working through the relational impact the pattern may have caused. Setting realistic goals and developing honest communication in close relationships tends to be central to this work.
