Addiction & Compulsive Behaviours

Social Media Addiction

If you reach for your phone before you've gotten out of bed, spend hours scrolling without meaning to, or feel a spike of anxiety when you try to step away, you're not alone. Social media is designed to pull your attention and keep it, and for many people, what starts as a habit can grow into something that feels genuinely hard to control, something that affects your mood, your focus, and your time.

In therapy, you can look honestly at what the compulsive checking or scrolling is doing for you, what it might be replacing, and what it costs you. That might mean examining the role that comparison, validation, or distraction plays in your daily life, or figuring out what conditions help you use these platforms on your own terms rather than being driven by them. The goal isn't to eliminate social media but to help you have a relationship with it that doesn't leave you feeling worse.
