Trust Issues

If you find it hard to trust people, there's usually a reason. Experiences of betrayal, disappointment, or unpredictability, especially early in life or in close relationships, can leave you wary in ways that become automatic over time. You might hold back, test people without meaning to, or brace for the worst even when things seem fine. That vigilance can feel protective, and at the same time it can make real closeness feel like a risk you can't quite take.

In therapy, you can look at where your difficulty with trust began and how it shows up now in your relationships, your work life, and the way you see yourself. The aim isn't to convince you to trust everyone, but to help you understand your own patterns and make more deliberate choices about when and how you extend trust. That shift, even a gradual one, tends to open up more of the connection most people are quietly looking for.
