Relationships & Connection

Attachment Styles or Codependency

The way you relate to the people you care about most is shaped by experiences that go back a long time. If you find yourself pulling away when things get too close, or feeling anxious and unsettled whenever there's any distance in a relationship, or repeatedly losing yourself in someone else's needs, those patterns didn't come from nowhere. They developed as responses to your early environment and the people around you.

Understanding how you attach to others, and where that comes from, can shift how you show up in relationships. In therapy, you might explore the specific dynamics that keep resurfacing, what tends to trigger your responses, and how to build more flexibility in the way you connect with people you're close to. The work is gradual, but it tends to carry into every significant relationship you have.
