Get to Know Our Therapists: Lisa Schwartz

At Shift, we are privileged to have a team of wonderful therapists and mental health experts. When we first met Lisa Schwartz, we were excited by her warmth, genuine personality, and her desire to grow as a therapist. We sat down with Lisa shortly after she joined to get to know her better.

What are some red flags to watch out for in daily life?

People who are not genuine! Passing through life without being mindful, present and grateful.

What social stigma does society need to get over?

That life isn't supposed to work out all the time. (It's not as perfect as it appears on Instagram!) People shouldn’t be expected to be happy all the time or have everything figured out; everybody is different and there is no right or wrong way to deal with adversity.

In the past people were buried with the items they would need in the afterlife, what would you want buried with you so you could use it in the afterlife?

Books, so I can continue learning and growing!

How do you judge a person?

By their character, actions, genuineness, and kindness.

Do you think that children born today will have better or worse lives than their parents?

Eek -- I would hope better, but I wonder about the impact of screens, social media, and life with too many choices!

What’s the most ridiculous thing you have bought?

Probably some sort of fashion item that I thought looked cool but when I tried it on at home it totally didn’t work!

What habit do you have now that you wish you started much earlier?

Being able to slow down without feeling like I need to be doing something all the time. (I’m still working on it!)

Are you more of a hunter or a gatherer?

Definitely gatherer.

What were you like in high school?

Studious and shy but social!

What do you think about when you're alone in the car?

Where is everyone going, what’s their story, what’s going on for them? (I think about this more on the TTC.) In the car on my way home from work it's probably more like "what am I going to make for dinner?"

What are you known for?

My thoughtfulness! I can also get loud and talk fast when I am excited. :D

What is a talent you would most like to have?

I would love to actually sing! And I wouldn't mind being able to play the guitar along with this.

What is your greatest extravagance?

Travelling the world! I've been to every continent except Antartica... is that even a real place?!

What inspires you?

Altruism, selflessness and kindness in the world! Especially when it seems like there is so much tragedy and hate.
